Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is hosting an event to help highlight how we can help care for people with dementia.

The event will take place on Monday, May 15, at the start of Dementia Awareness week, and will inform members of the public about the condition.

Dementia has more than 100 different variants and the event will focus on what can be done to help those who have been diagnosed.

Specialist dementia Nurse, Fiona McCandless-Sugg said: “I’m excited to get the chance to speak to more people about how we can make a difference to those living with Dementia.

“It’s a rapidly growing area which people need to be aware of, so we as a society can help each other and be united against Dementia. It’s opportunities to make a difference like this that made me want to work in this field of nursing.”

Fiona will also be aiming to recruit 50 Dementia Friends (An Alzheimer’s Society initiative) and will be joined at the event by specialist falls nurse, Joanne Lewis-Hodgkinson.

Joanne added: “There are groups of people who are more vulnerable than others who are at risk of falls and my presentation will be around the falls work at Sherwood Forest Hospitals to help reduce the risks.”
