An Ollerton man has launched a new fun business that aims to give children the chance to get behind the wheel of a go-kart and learn road safety awareness.

Go-Kart Party offers youngsters aged from 4 to 11, including those with special needs, the chance to drive battery-powered go-karts on an inflatable Grand Prix-style circuit.

Wayne Jones said: “We provide a range of different activities for children, including holiday courses, birthday parties, retail events, shows, fundraising activities for schools and community groups, and promotional days.”

The circuit operates at locations including Mansfield, Kirkby, Ollerton and Shirebrook, and can be taken to people’s homes or venues where there is a suitable grass, Tarmac or indoor surface.

Wayne said early feedback was encouraging.

“It’s very exciting,” he added. “We are giving children what is often their first real driving experience.

“The battery go-karts are completely safe. There is no noise, no emissions and they are enclosed in our inflatable circuit, so the children are safe at all times.

“Our go-karts have remote-control units attached that can power-off the karts in an instant, bringing them to a controlled stop.”

The Dukeries Leisure Centre, Ollerton, and Shirebrook Leisure Centre have been used for holiday camps and there are plans to run sessions at Oak Tree Leisure Centre, Mansfield.

Wayne added: “We always start with a safety briefing and a safety drive so the children can get used to the karts.
“The speed and control of the karts can be changed with the speed ranging from 1mph up to a maximum of 6mph.

“We can do slalom driving with controlled overtaking. Our karts can go into reverse as well for different driving challenges, including three-point turns and parking.

“We also do controlled races and Grand Prix events for children.”
