Radio station’s marathon tonic

Posted onPosted on 14th Feb

A 24-hour live broadcasting marathon was held at Millside Radio, the hospital station for patients in King’s Mill Hospital, Sutton, to raise awareness and funds to keep the registered charity on air.

Volunteer presenter Ashley Hardy teamed up with co-presenter, Cam Felton, for the broadcast, which was heard across the hospital and via its own internet feed at www.millsideradio.co.uk

The marathon featured unique segments, including karaoke challenges, patient requests and guests from other shows.

The station’s mascot, Milly Bear, was in the studio to celebrate the end of the broadcast as Ashley played his last song, We Are The Champions, by Queen.

Ashley, a volunteer for three years, said: “It was tough but for a great cause.”

Cam, a new member of the volunteers at the station, said: “It was a challenge because I have never done anything of the sort before.”

The station is always keen to hear from new volunteers, email [email protected]

The total funds raised are still being calculated, but are likely to be more than £100.

Ashley, Cam and staff at the station thanked people for their support, including BBC Radio Nottingham’s morning presenter Mark Dennison, who sent his congratulations at the end of the event.
