Goalkeeping crisis for Stags

Posted onPosted on 11th Apr

Mansfield Town face a goalkeeping crisis ahead of Saturday’s visit of title-chasing Rochdale, which kicks off at 3.07pm.

First choice Alan Marriott has a dislocated thumb and reserve keeper Ian Deakin, who has been waiting for a first-team chance in the league all season, is now possibly ruled out with a quad problem, despite playing for the reserves in their midweek 3-1 win at Hartlepool.

Full back Lee Beevers, who has filled in as an emergency keeper during games in the past after injuries to Marriott, is also ruled out.

After dislocating his shoulder again in last week’s 1-0 win at Morecambe, Beevers is to have an operation now rather than than wait until the summer as first planned.

Manager Paul Cox, eager to extend the unbeaten run to six matches and possibly make mathematically sure of a place in the Football League next season, is expected to sign a loan keeper on Friday.

Stags will be without suspended duo Anthony Howell and Jamie McGuire on Saturday but do welcome James Jennings back from a two-game ban. Louis Briscoe, who scored twice for the reserves, may return to the squad.
