Shoppers urged to back school’s grant chance

Christmas shoppers at local Tesco stores are being asked to vote for Berry Hill Primary School, which is one of three projects shortlisted for a Tesco Bags Of Help grant.

The school would use the money to help improve its outdoor area. It plans to develop colourful mosaic artwork, create colourful bins to collect its rubbish and install an interpretation sign at the front of school.

The school also wants to create a carving from a tree stump that remains from a tree that had to be removed at the school.

Berry Hill is one of three shortlisted projects. The public can vote in stores until 31st December.

Customers will be given a token as they go through the tills, to vote for one of three projects. The voting boxes are usually by customer service desks. Grants of £5,000, £2,000 and £1,000 will be awarded.

The school is asking customers to vote for it to help secure the maximum grant to improve its outside space.

Head Susan Brown said: “We are very, very pleased to have been shortlisted for the Bags Of Help grant. I would like to encourage all local people to support our school and vote for us.

“I am looking forward to hearing about the result in January. It will give a great opportunity for our children to get involved with developing the project further, if we secure the maximum grant.”

Tesco has teamed up with Groundwork for the Bags Of Help initiative. The scheme sees three community groups and projects awarded grants of £5,000, £2,000 and £1,000 – all raised from the 5p bag charge.
