Water Meadows celebrates 25 years

Posted onPosted on 29th Nov

The Water Meadows Swimming and Fitness Complex in Mansfield is celebrating 25 years since it was first opened by the Princess Royal in 1991.

Visitors can swim, ride the flumes and work out all under one roof at the centre, which offers three water rides, a wave machine, fun pool and water features for young children all within a warm, sub-tropical atmosphere.

The 25m competition pool is home to the Nova Centurion Swimming Club, who have coached Olympic and Paralympic medallists Rebecca Adlington OBE, Sam Hynd, Ollie Hynd MBE and Charlotte Henshaw.

Water Meadows, along with other leisure centres in the district, is managed by Mansfield District Leisure Trust and their operator Serco. Mansfield District Council works in partnership with the trust to continue to make developments and improve the facilities available.

In 2012, the fitness complex was refurbished and new water features were added to the pool for young children. In 2014, thanks to funding from Sport England, the existing changing area was revamped and improvements made to showers and toilet facilities. Earlier this year, a new soft play and café area was also added.

Councillor Andrew Tristram, portfolio holder for the environment, said: “We are very proud of Water Meadows which offers such a wide range of facilities for everyone across the district and beyond to enjoy. We have made various improvements over the years and we hope people continue to enjoy using it for many years to come.”
