Fashionable help for two causes

Posted onPosted on 25th Nov

Soroptimist International Mansfield and District raised £1,107 at a charity fashion show at Fountaindale School, Mansfield.

The money was shared by the school and the Derek Bailey Foundation, a registered charity working in the Gambia.

The foundation, which was formed 22 years ago, concentrates its efforts in a small village called Nyofelleh, West Africa, where it has built a small school and a medical centre.

The foundation’s ethos is to improve the lives of women and children, and it has built a maternity unit in the past 18 months, using local skills and labour.

Its next project is to build an extension of extra classrooms to accommodate an expanding pupil list, which has risen from 70 to almost 600.

A Soroptimist spokesman said: “This ethos is in common with Soroptimist International’s vision and goals, by which we believe the key to improve lives is through education, enabling and empowering.”

Colours provided the clothing and models for the event.
