Marathon man still on the run

Posted onPosted on 13th Oct

Mansfield taxi firm manager Nick Shaw is on target to complete 18 long-distance runs for charity.

Nick, (46), is raising money for Sense, a national disability charity that supports people who are deafblind, in memory of his father, Dennis Shaw, who suffered with deteriorating eye sight in later life.

Nick’s initial aim was to run the London Marathon, but once that was completed he decided to take on a further runs.

He has also completed the Sheffield Half-Marathon, the Great North Run and the Robin Hood Half-Marathon.

Nick, of Edwinstowe, said: “Year after year I watched the London Marathon on TV. I always told my dad I would one day compete in it and this year that dream came true.

“My father was registered blind in his final years and I am very aware of the impact sight loss had on his life and ours. Hopefully my efforts will make a difference to people who rely on their help.”

In November, Nick aims to tackle the Leeds Abbey Dash, Skegness 10k and Benidorm Half-Marathon. In December he will run the Edwinstowe 10k and Bolsover 10k to complete his efforts.

Nick has surpassed his original fundraising target of £2,000, but hopes to further increase his total.
