A £10,000 refurbishment programme to enhance maternity services is under way at King’s Mill Hospital, Sutton.
The project, funded by the Mansfield and Sutton League of Friends, will provide home comforts, including a double bed and soft furnishings, for the bereavement suite in the hospital’s maternity department.
The improvements will enhance services for parents and families, providing a quiet and comforting environment to make any distressing time a little gentler.
Alison Whitham, head of midwifery at Sherwood Forest Hospitals Trust, which runs King’s Mill, said: “Bereavement care is extremely important to us and is offered in accordance with the values of the parents who have experienced a late pregnancy or perinatal loss.
“Improvements to the bereavement suite will enable staff to provide their dedicated assistance and support in more comfortable and private surroundings.
“We thank the League of Friends.”
The money was raised from fundraising events, donations from the public and profits from three charity shops.
Barbara Joule, chairman of the League of Friends, said: “Our fundraising team and shop volunteers work tirelessly.
“It is thanks to them and the support of the local community that we are able to fund this worthwhile project.”
Improvements are set for completion in October.
