A dance spectacular in Mansfield’s Market Place will help people get into the swing of things as they might have been in the 1940s.

The Mansfield Improvement District (BID) has organised the Back to the Swing of Things for Friday 30th May, at a ballroom in a marquee.

Doors open at 6.30pm with dance demonstrations from 7pm, and guests are invited to go dressed in vintage clothing.

Prior to the event event, and also in the marquee, people can visit a range of stalls, and learn how to dance in a series of classes.

Also on display in the town centre during the day will be a replica Spitfire aircraft, similar to one that would have been in the Battle of Britain during the Second World War.

Tickets, priced at £5 (£6 on the door), include light refreshments and can be purchased from selected town centre stores.

BID manager Sarah Nelson said: “This is a great way to enjoy an evening in Mansfield town centre, dancing the night away to the sounds of an eight-piece band.

“The BID has put on a number of events in the town centre, helping to attract thousands of visitors, and this one we hope will be no exception. We’ve already sold a number of tickets and had a great deal of interest too.”

Trina Edmondson, of the Backstep Boogie Club, will be helping to teach people some of the moves from the wartime era, including dances such as the lindy hop, the jive and boogie woogie.
