Council backing for returning Mansfield 10k

Mansfield District Council is working in partnership with local charity Reach Learning Disability to bring the Mansfield 10k back to the town on Sunday 21 August.

After a successful first event in 2015 with 661 participants, this year the council is working with the charity to encourage up to 1,000 runners to hit the streets of Mansfield town centre.

The race starts at 9am with a new route that starts and finishes in the Market Place with two laps of the town centre.

So far 500 participants have registered, including Abbey Clarke, events and PR Officer at Mansfield District Council, who said: “It’s not something I’d ever considered doing before, being a total novice runner, but knowing I’m going to be part of such a big event for our town makes it totally worthwhile. Plus I get to help raise funds for a great local charity so I thought I’d give it a go.”

Mayor Kate Allsop said: “We’re glad to support such a worthy charity and are honoured to be working in partnership on such a fantastic event for our town. We encourage as many runners as possible to sign up.”

Other sponsors include local businesses McDonald’s, Slimming World and Mansfield Building Society.

There are a limited number of places left for this year’s event.
