Community award for quartet

Posted onPosted on 1st Aug

A Warsop resident who has transformed his neighbourhood with colourful community planting was among four people to receive Mayor’s Awards in Mansfield.

Kate Allsop presented the award to Amby Taylor, who was nominated for his exceptional work in his community.

Mayor Allsop said: “The land outside the Homesteads bungalows was looking a little tired and Amby kindly asked if he could do something about that.

“He rolled his sleeves up and began digging and weeding the area, which he has filled with lovely planting. This has all been done at his own cost. What a lovely thing to do — it has made a real difference for the elderly who live in that area.”

Three other awards went to Helen Cíesíelskí, Tony Dowson and Pam Easton, who all volunteer for Mansfield Welfare Rights.

Mayor Allsop said: “These volunteers are true community champions and do an exceptional job helping people in need by listening, advising, assisting in filling forms, and dealing with letters of enquiry from external agencies.

“This service takes so much worry from people’s shoulders and this award is our thanks for the invaluable work they do.”

The Mayor’s awards are handed out at each full council meeting and are chosen from nominations sent to the Mayor.

Councillors and members of the public can nominate a person to receive a Mayor’s commendation throughout the year by emailing [email protected] giving their reasons why a group or individual should be commended. Successful nominees will be invited to attend full council meetings to receive their certificates.
