Free summer of sporting fun

The Buzzy B Club at the Four Seasons Shopping Centre, Mansfield, returns tomorrow (Tuesday) and every Tuesday throughout the summer holidays with various sporting activities for youngsters.

On Tuesday 26th children can choose their favourite country from a huge map – showing the 206 nations taking part in the Olympic Games this year – and then make a flag to take with them the following week, where they can create their own torches for the centre’s own ‘opening ceremony.’

“The summer schedule will give children the chance to try their hand at archery, gymnastics and even martial arts,” said Rebekah O’Neill, centre manager at Four Seasons.

“All our Buzzy B Clubs this year have had a focus on health, and with the Olympic Games right around the corner, we thought it was the perfect opportunity to focus on Sporting Fun.

“We’ve got some great activities lined up, and we’re looking forward to giving many children their first opportunity to try out some new sports.”

Children who attend two of the six summer Buzzy B Clubs will receive a special bronze medal, with silver and gold medals available for those who attend four or all six of the free fun events.

Rebekah said that adults were not being left out either with medals and prizes up for grabs as Four Seasons launches its own campaign to find Mansfield’s Everyday Heroes.

“As the world prepares to lavish praise on its sporting heroes over the next few weeks, we wanted to do something to honour those people who do the extraordinary every day by making a difference to someone’s life,” said Rebekah. “That’s why we’re launching our search for an Everyday Hero, inviting people to nominate anyone they think quite literally deserves a medal.

“Everyone’s idea of a hero is different, which is why we thought it would be great to give people a platform to publicly thank and acknowledge those who they admire and appreciate,” said Rebekah. “It could be a grandparent who helps look after children, or the friend who’s always there with a kind word or helping hand. Or it could be the lollipop lady who’s there to help you safely across the road each day, or the dad who always makes his children laugh,” she said.

Nominations for the Everyday Hero are now open on the centre’s Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/fourseasonsshopping/

“The nominations will be open for a full two weeks, and in keeping with the spirit of the games our judges will then name our Bronze, Silver and Gold medal winners,” said Rebekah. “The medals and prizes will then be presented at the last of our Sporting Fun Buzzy B Clubs in August.”

The free Buzzy B Clubs run from 11am to 3pm. Anyone who attends all six events can also enter a free draw to win a £50 gift card.

“We’re really looking forward to our summer of Sporting Fun, and combining that with our search for an Everyday Hero,” said Rebekah. “We can’t wait to see everyone who takes part and to present the winners with their medals.”
