Kirkby youngster Emily Iliffe is celebrating a double photography win in Rotary competitions.
Emily, (11), of Greenwood Primary School, won the Kirkby Rotary Club Young Photographer Junior Competition and was also named best junior entry in Rotary District 1220, which covers more than 60 clubs in Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and South Yorkshire.
She won a cash prize and a certificate from the Rotary club, which was presented at a school assembly.
Her entry was highly commended in the national competition of Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland.
Rotarian Roger Pursey, a member of the District Youth Committee, presented the awards and was accompanied by Rotarian Francis Newenham, chairman of the Kirkby Rotary Club projects committee.
Mr Pursey said: “Well done Emily and a big thanks to Greenwood Primary School pupils and staff for their continued support in this competition.”
Emily said: “I was a little bit shocked when my name was called out at assembly. I wondered why my mum spent a long time doing my hair that morning.”
The theme of the competition was Our World Is Beautiful.
Emily explained her three-part entry: “I picked a memorial plaque at Crich, it shows people respect those who fought for us; Cromford Canal with ducks swimming happily together; and the River Derwent at Matlock showing how beautiful nature is with trees growing by the river.”
The 2016/17 competition has a theme of reflections. There are junior, intermediate and senior categories.
Any Kirkby school or individual interested in taking part should email Rotarian Neil Lancashire on [email protected] for details.
