Mansfield District Council is urging groups to register to help clear up grot spots for International Clean Up Mansfield Day on Friday, 10th June.
20 groups have already registered to take part in the clean-up which is an annual event that sees groups such as schools, businesses, residents and communities join forces to improve their local environment.
Schools such as Mansfield Primary Academy, The Brunts Academy and Wynndale Primary School have already registered to join in and it is expected that more schools will sign up now half term is over.
Mansfields from across the globe are also invited to sign up with Mansfield, Texas and Mansfield, Pennsylvania already showing their support. Last year even a Mansfield from Canada took part and helped to make Mansfield the cleanest place on the planet.
In Mansfield, Texas, clean-up events are carried out on a monthly basis with their next one scheduled to tie in with International Clean Up Mansfield Day on Saturday 11 June.
“The residents of Mansfield, Texas, are especially involved in keeping our community clean and in recycling to improve our environment,” said Howard Redfearn, environmental services manager for the City of Mansfield, Texas. “It’s so important to our community that the City Council supported the construction and operation of an Environmental Collection Center so residents would have a permanent location to bring materials for recycling and host city-wide clean-up efforts.
“We host numerous clean-up events throughout the year that involve the entire community and make a significant impact in our ability to keep the city clean. While our clean-up activity is June 11 and is part of our regular monthly event for residents at the collection center, we wholly support the efforts of Mansfield UK and look forward to partnering with them in the future for International Clean Up Mansfield Day.”
Portfolio Holder for the Environment at Mansfield District Council, Cllr Andrew Tristram said: “We’re giving one last push to encourage as many people as possible to take part in this very rewarding experience. Getting involved in community projects like this give a real sense of belonging and pride so we ask you to sign up and get involved.”
Anyone can register to take part until Thursday 9 June but if equipment is required i.e. litter pickers or bin bags, the council ask for 48 hours’ notice so delivery can be arranged.
