Businesses in Mansfield and Ashfield are being urged to provide listening spaces to help employees share concerns and develop plans to improve their wellbeing.
Annette Clay, of Mansfield Woodhouse-based Road To Success Coaching, is an expert in supporting companies to get the best out of their staff.
She warned that some companies might just be ‘ticking boxes when it came to wellbeing programmes— and they could be paying the price.
“Wellbeing is very much on the agenda of many organisations these days. In particular, HR and training departments see the benefits both to individuals and businesses alike,” she said.
“It’s fair to say that there are some organisations doing great work, but there are many others who are merely ticking boxes. Or, they are doing what they believe to be right but are not providing a more holistic approach. They could definitely be listening better to what employees are saying and thinking.”
For example, organisations may say they have employee engagement processes, but few actually listen properly to what a staff member is saying, particularly about their wellbeing.
This can be seen where actions are not being taken to either improve the workplace or put an action plan in place for staff members.
Annette added: “Companies who approach wellbeing with a listening ear and take action are the ones who are going to do well because they are the ones who know that staff productivity will improve while absenteeism and presenteeism will diminish.”
