Nottinghamshire County Council is again looking for modern-day community heroes.

The council said it received a very positive response after launching the Nottinghamshire Community Heroes awards in March.

Janet Enever, a community stalwart from Brinsley, was the winner of the first award, which recognised her work in the village.

It included hosting an annual Christmas dinner for 150 people and organising a recent street party to celebrate the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

Nottinghamshire Community Heroes is seeking nominations for people who go the extra mile for a neighbour, an organisation or a local community.

Now new Nottinghamshire County Council chairman, Councillor Sue Saddington, is appealing for more nominations from across the county.

Councillor Saddington will meet the person who is named as a Nottinghamshire Community Hero and will present them with an award for their achievements.

She said: “The Chairman’s Community Heroes award gives us the opportunity to raise the profile of community champions in local areas across Nottinghamshire.

“There are so many people who do lots of work which doesn’t get recognition so these awards seek to address that. It also gives us a chance to say a big ‘thankyou’ to the chosen nominee for everything they do.”

Nominees must live in the county and work or volunteer within the county.
