New praise for endoscopy team

Posted onPosted on 17th Nov

Sherwood Forest Hospitals’ endoscopy team has been recognised for its contribution to better treatment of stomach and bowel conditions in Pakistan.

The trust’s endoscopy department is one of 26 specialist training centres in the UK and is accredited by the Joint Advisory Group on Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.

Not only has clinical endoscopist Paul Hagan received a lifetime achievement award from the government of Pakistan for contributions to education, but the team has been presented with achievement awards from the Civil Hospital Karachi, supported by Dow Medical School, Pakistan.

Over the past five years, the team has been responsible for training more than 150 doctors from all over Pakistan.
Endoscopies use a flexible tube and camera to investigate conditions including bowel cancer, stomach problems, ulcers, gall stones and removal of polyps (growths) in the bowel.

Paul said: “Sherwood Forest Hospitals staff have given up holiday and study leave to deliver training in Pakistan, using a combination of face-to-face sessions and screen-to-screen presentations.”
