Museum scoops more awards

Mansfield Museum has been named Nottinghamshire’s Heritage Site Of The Year.

The Mansfield District Council attraction also won the Best Event award for its Made In Mansfield pub quiz at the Nottinghamshire Heritage Awards, at Nottingham Trent Universit.

The pub quiz event was held in the Palace Theatre Bar off the museum’s Made In Mansfield industrial gallery.

A second quiz was held across the road from the museum in a pub amid its regulars — a place where few would expect museum activity.

The aim was to celebrate the success of the industrial gallery on its birthday and take the work of the museum into the community and reach people who may not usually visit the attraction.

Cllr David Smith, Portfolio Holder for Cultural Services, Town and District Centres, said: “We are all so proud of the museum’s achievements in these awards which are thoroughly deserved.

“The museum really is an excellent asset for people living in and visiting Mansfield and its excellence is largely down to the great efforts and teamwork of the museum staff and their commitment to making the museum as accessible and as relevant to the local community as possible.”

In April, the museum won the Commitment to the Community Award at the Mansfield 2020 Business Awards.
