£1,000 aim to thank hospital unit for “incredible care”

A family is aiming to raise £1,000 to say thank you to a King’s Mill Hospital unit that is trying to save the life of a Forest Town woman.

Doreen Vincent, who used to work at the B&Q store on Baums Lane, Mansfield, was diagnosed with pancreatitis in March and has spent two months fighting the potentially fatal condition.

Now her family has set a £1,000 target to help the critical care unit treat others who are seriously ill.

Terry Stephens (pictured) — the partner of Doreen’s daughter, Lisa — ran the Milton Keynes Marathon at the beginning May to boost the fundraising.

It was the first time he had tackled the 26.2 miles distance.

He said: “They are working tirelessly around the clock to save Lisa’s mum.

“She has received incredible care and they are doing all they can for her. Lisa desperately wants to help others — and to help the unit to give the attention and care Doreen is receiving to others in the future.

“The nurses have been so supportive and patient .They work non-stop to give the best care they can to very poorly people,

“Doreen is not out of the woods yet and there are some very difficult weeks ahead. We hope and pray she makes a full recovery.”

Lisa, a former town centre events co-ordinator at Mansfield District Council, said: “Starting with this fundraising has really helped me in dealing with mum situation as I feel like I am able to give something back.

“Going into the unit and seeing what the nurses, doctors and physiotherapists do 24/7 is truly inspiring. They give incredible care.”
